What can parents do during SMP?

Parents may drop off Saturday Morning Physics students, or they may come into Wilson Hall and wait.

The atrium of Wilson Hall is a lovely, quiet place to do work, especially on a Saturday morning. You may bring laptops, tablets, books, or other resources to use. Ask at the registration desk about registering your electronics to use the Fermilab WiFi network. Please use headphones. SMP staff are almost always available to chat.

Having children with you who cannot sit for two or three hours as you wait in the atrium is not recommended. Wilson Hall is a very safe place, but there is not much for a child to do there!

We have guidelines for parents and other adults in the lecture hall and on the tours.

Restaurants: Along Kirk Road (west of the lab) is: Panera, Starbucks, McDonald’s, Chipotle, Sonic, Subway, etc. Along IL Route 59 (east of the lab) is: McDonald’s, Subway, Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, etc. Other than vending machines, there are no food services at Fermilab on Saturday morning.

The Chicago Premium Outlet Mall is only 9 km from Wilson Hall.
